Gracing the Globe
Anybody remember 1968? Like today, our nation was embroiled in a divisive presidential campaign – facing global and economic crises. But unlike today, Grace Bible Church was meeting in a little red brick building on South College, about three miles north of campus. A DTS grad named Joe Wall had been the pastor of little Grace Baptist Church (name changed later) for just a few years. In the church's early and lean years, Joe challenged himself and his little flock to look beyond themselves and embrace God’s call to reach the nations. He did so from what was then the ‘middle of nowhere’. Three missionary couples visited for Grace's first-ever Missions Conference, and in a bold step of faith, the congregation decided to financially support all three couples – at an astonishing $10 per month each! That may not seem astonishing today, but at the time the church wasn’t even able to pay Joe’s meager salary. By faith, they stepped out into the world together.

Fast-forward almost 45 years and see what God has done. Go almost anywhere in the world, and missionaries will know something about “that church in College Station, Texas.” We support more than 70 missionaries full time and more than 20 in a one to two year ‘stint’ (short term international trip). The annual budget for missions endeavors is greater than a half a million dollars. More importantly though, in the ensuing years, hundreds have been sent out among the nations … still from the ‘middle of nowhere’ (some would say). And God is still doing more!
These people of Grace (people just like you) are living and serving all over the globe. We want you to hear their stories, to know them personally and to pray for them with more confidence and clarity. As GO Week 2012 commences and via the blessing of the blog, we invite you to meet us here from time to time and hear extraordinary stories of ordinary people – gracing the globe.
