Uniting Neighbors in Thoughtful Exchanges
UNITE is a program of Grace Bible Church that seeks to provide for families in the B/CS area that have special needs this Christmas season. It is similar to the Angel Tree program, except we are bringing gifts to children involved in Youth Impact. It is our desire that you, as a part of Grace Bible Church, would impart hope to these amazing families that we know and love. In return, we know that you will be blessed to get to know these families we love so much.
How do I participate?
There will be a list of Youth Impact families in the Anderson foyer, as well as their Christmas wish list for you to choose. Once you have chosen the family, you will receive the wish list and sign your name on the list provided at the table. After you have agreed to sponsor the family, you are expected to buy presents, wrap them, contact the family to find out when to deliver them, and then deliver them at that time.
How much do I spend?
We are asking people to spend around $35-$50 per person. This is merely a guide so that there is some consistency across the board with what families are receiving through UNITE. If you spend a little more or a little less, that will be fine.
What if I can’t afford to sponsor a whole family?
There are 2 options for people that are not able to sponsor an entire family:
-
Partner with another family at Grace or your small group. This is a great way to serve together with others in our congregation. The above process would be the same and we ask that you would coordinate that process with your partnering group.
-
If you are unable to find a partnering family or group, let me know and we can coordinate that for you.
Suggestions for bringing gifts:
The Youth Impact volunteers told the families that UNITE is a good opportunity for our church to get to know them, just as the college volunteers have come to know and love them. Our focus is not solely on charity, so we ask that you keep in mind that this program serves as a bridge between Grace and the Youth Impact families. Not only does UNITE bless the Youth Impact families, but it will impact your family, as well. Please take genuine interest in who they are, and ask about their kids because everyone can relate when talking about their kids, no matter your socio-economic status. Finally, some Grace families have brought dinners with them to the exchange, but this is not required.
