“Amazing Love”

Romans 3:21-26

The amazing love of God for us is demonstrated in His gracious provision of righteousness through His Son Jesus Christ.

God’s Righteousness:

I. Everybody Needs It (21-23).

II. God Gives It For Free (24a).

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

III. Jesus’ Work Makes It Possible (24b-26).

A. Redemption

… you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.

—1 Peter 1:18-19

B. Propitiation

…and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat; but of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

—Hebrews 9:5

C. Justification

“Our own justification before God rests on the solid reality that the fulfilling of God’s justice in Christ was at the same time the fulfilling of this love for us.”

For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
