“Gripped by the Gospel”
Romans 1:16-17
The book of Romans is an explanation of the Gospel which changed the course of Paul's life and the course of history.
For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for I am under compulsion; for woe is me if I do not preach the gospel.
—1 Corinthians 9:16
The Gospel:
I. Saves Us From God’s Wrath (16a).
… I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy because I acted ignorantly in unbelief.
—1 Timothy 1:13
II. Unites Us As God’s People (16b).
There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
—Galatians 3:28
But now in Christ Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall.
—Ephesians 2:13-14
III. Clothes Us With God’s Righteousness (17).
“It will be righteousness for us if we are careful to observe all this commandment before the Lord our God, just as He commanded us.
—Deut 6:25
All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
—Isaiah 53:6
