Why does God care so much about our marriages?

Marriage Mistakes

1. Intermarriage (v11-12)

– 2 Cor 6:14-15 – Don’t marry an unbeliever

• But he’s the nicest guy I know! (Eph 2:1-3)

• But I can save him! (1 Cor 15:33)

• But we’re just having fun!

• But there’s no one else out there for me!

– If you are dating an unbeliever, break up this weekend

2. Divorce (v13-16)

– Mt 19:3-9

– Point: divorce is never God’s ideal

– Application: take it “off the table” right now

– So why do we even consider it?

• Because we believe it’s no big deal

• Because we believe life will be better after divorce

– God’s view of marriage:

• Marriage brings an unalterable change

• It is the foundation of a godly home and society

• It is primary model to the world of Christ’s love (Eph 5:25-27)

Quick Marriage Tips

• Don’t wait till you have problems to seek advice

• Hang out with couples whose marriages you admire

• Speak kindly to one another

• Practice gratefulness
