“Ezra: Skilled Servant of God and King”
Ezra 7
In 458 B.C. Ezra led the second return of exiles to the Promised Land. Because he was trusted, King Artaxerxes (464-424 B.C.) charged him with restoring civil and religious order among his people. Ezra’s skill for this role came from his study of God’s word (he knew it), his personal application of God’s word (he lived it), his ability to pass on these life-giving truths to others of his generation (he reproduced it) and the favor of the Lord empowering him (he understood the source of real change).
Competence: “Having sufficient skill, knowledge, ability, or qualifications.”
—Wiktionary

—Ephesians 4:1
Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;
—Phil. 1:27
…so that you would walk in a manner worthy of the God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.
—1 Thessalonians 2:12
“…excellence implies more than competence. It implies a striving for the highest standards in every phase of life. We need individual excellence in all its forms – in every kind of creative endeavor, in political life, in education, in industry – in short, universally.”
