“Decisions, Decisions”
We face decisions every day, some of them significant and some of them trivial. How can we make wise decisions in a way that honors the Lord?
I. Pray for Wisdom (James 1:5).
But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
—James 1:5
II. Determine Your Options.
A. What doors are open/closed (Acts 16:6-10)?
They passed through the Phrygian and Galatian region, having been forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia; and after they came to Mysia, they were trying to go into Bithynia, and the Spirit of Jesus did not permit them; and passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas. A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go into Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.
—Acts 16:6-10
B. What options have I not considered (Gen. 22)?
A. Is it biblical (2 Tim. 3:16)?
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.
—2 Timothy 3:16-17
Command:
“For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality.”
—1 Thessalonians 4:3
Convictions:
“One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.”
—Romans 14:5
B. Is it sensible (Titus 2:6-8)?
Likewise urge the young men to be sensible; in all things show yourself to be an example of good deeds, with purity in doctrine, dignified, sound in speech which is beyond reproach, so that the opponent will be put to shame, having nothing bad to say about us.
—Titus 2:6-8
C. Is it the BEST use of God’s resources?
D. What is my “gut feeling”?
E. What do I prefer to do?
IV. Trust in God’s Leading.
A. Don’t Be Anxious (Mt. 6:25-27).
“For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?”
—Matthew 6:25-27
B. Step Out in Faith.
