Tod Berkey, Pastor of Young Adults
“I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live but Christ lives in me and the life I live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” Galatians 2:20
Helping people understand the incredible life graciously given to them in Christ is Tod’s greatest passion. Having grown up in an incredible Christian home Tod came to Christ at a young age but it wasn’t until college when he became fully captivated with His Savior and sensed his first calling to vocational ministry.
After graduating with a Marketing degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Tod spent a few years working in politics and the business sector but soon realized God had different plans for him. After resigning from his job he attended a Torchbearers Bible School and was then invited to serve as a youth director for an expat church in England. He was then invited to work in a camping ministry context after speaking at a retreat.
While serving Tod met and married his first wife. While their plan was to do a lifetime of ministry together his first wife decided she did not want to be married to someone in vocational ministry. Tod considered his marriage more important than his vocation so he resigned his position, secured secular employment and they attended marriage counseling. During this time his first wife engaged in an extramarital affair and took steps towards divorce. At the time, Tod felt this was the end of God using him in a vocational ministry setting.
Following the divorce from his first wife, Tod continued to work in a secular environment until he was invited to serve as a youth director in Santiago, Chile. In 2013 while serving in South America Tod met his wife, Erin who lived in College Station, via eHarmony. Realizing God was leading them together, Tod left Chile to move to Texas to marry Erin and become the father of Paxson (13) and Preston (11).
Once in College Station Tod immediately got involved in Grace Bible Church where he served as a Bible Study leader and deacon. As he continued to examine how God might want to use him, he decided to expand his theological training and joined the Fellows program while he attended Dallas Theological Seminary.
As a fellow Tod and Erin served the Young Adult community through leading a home group geared towards single graduate students and young professionals. God grew the scope of this ministry which led Tod and Erin to launch “Junction,” a year-round weekly Bible study and worship gathering for young adults in the Brazos Valley. Junction also provides authentic community through small group Bible study, sports, social events, service opportunities, mission trips and more.
Upon completing the Fellows program and obtaining his Master’s of Christian Leadership from Dallas Theological Seminary in 2017, Tod was invited to join the full-time staff where he currently serves as the Director of Young Adults ministry.
