Creekside Teaching Pastor
"...forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Phil 3:13b-14
Pauls' words in Philippians 3 summarize why I have dedicated my life to the gospel. I want to spend my life making disciples, with the hope that one day I'll hear my Savior say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." I press on, day after day, so that I can achieve that goal.
I came to know Jesus when I was just a child, while listening to a record (that's right, a spinning record) on which a speaker shared the gospel. I heard about God's grace and how He sent His only Son to die in my place and come back to life. My parents then explained to me what it meant to be a Christian, and I believed.
I graduated from Texas A&M in 1998 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Although my long-term plans were uncertain, I accepted an opportunity to serve for two years as a college intern at Grace, where I had attended during college. During that time, I became convinced that my gifting and passion were in full-time vocational ministry. In particular, I felt the Lord was calling me to lead college students into deeper relationships with Jesus.
In January 2000, while I was still an intern, I married Shannon Habgood. I'm still not certain how I convinced her to go along with it, but I'm glad she did. She loves Jesus and she loves people, and she's more than I deserve. We have three kids, Elizabeth (2004), Abigail (2008), and Samuel (2010).
After my internship ended, we moved to Dallas while I pursued my degree at Dallas Theological Seminary. Upon graduating in May 2004, I came back to the church I love and accepted a position as the College Pastor. I subsequently served as Communications Pastor and now lead Grace's third campus, Creekside, as its teaching pastor.
More than anything, I'm excited about how God is moving at Grace Bible Church, and I feel extremely privileged to be a part of His work here. My prayer is that I can spend my life boldly proclaiming the grace of Jesus, who came to set us free from sin and death and give us the power to live as God intends.
