“…and thus I make it my ambition to preach the gospel, not where Christ has already been named, lest I build on someone else’s foundation.” – Romans 15:20
After having been raised in a church for all of my life, I finally understood what it meant to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ just after my freshman year in high school. My outward behaviors began to change immediately, but the radical difference was a new purpose for living. Through my high school years, I studied God’s word and started to become aware of a world that had yet to hear of God’s saving grace.
Through the influence of some good friends, I got involved with Cru (formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ), and started my participation in the Great Commission. It was through these opportunities to be involved at Texas A&M and around the world that God began to paint a new vision for my future. Upon graduation with a degree in Political Science, I moved to the Republic of Georgia, which was in the process of breaking away from the Soviet Union, to be involved in helping to start a campus ministry.
After a year, I returned to the U.S. to get more training, and completed a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, and joined full-time staff with Cru, being placed in the remotest parts of the earth (Texas Tech, Lubbock, TX). I knew I wanted to return overseas full time, and eight months after marrying Amy, we moved to East Asia and Athens for the next 15 years, helping to pioneer a number of new campus ministries.
Having now expanded our family to include our three boys (Jackson, Noah and Benjamin), we returned to the U.S. in 2011 to serve on a regional leadership development team for Cru, and finish some doctoral work in the area of Strategic Leadership. In 2013 I started to have conversations about working with Grace Bible Church, my home church since college, in the area of global outreach. I formally joined staff as the Pastor of Outreach in January 2104
It is great to be working for a church that has had so much influence in my own life, and it is my hope to extend that influence as we love the nations from College Station!
