"One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts." Psalm 145:4
In 1980, during Brian's sophomore year in high school, his family moved from Ithaca, New York to College Station, Texas. From 1983-1987 he attended Texas A&M University. As a college student Brian participated in the college class, then taught by Dwight Edwards. Dwight's repeated emphasis on making your life count for eternity resonated in Brian's heart. During that time he decided that no matter what his career, he would use it to contribute to Christ's kingdom.
After receiving a degree in Economics with a minor in Spanish from TAMU, Brian decided to attend Dallas Theological Seminary "just to know the Bible better." He graduated in 1991 with a Masters of Theology (Th. M.) in Bible Exposition.
Brian returned to Grace as a pastoral intern in the Fall of 1991. In the Fall of 1992 he received an invitation from the International Church of Prague, Czechoslovakia to serve as their interim pastor. While there Grace Bible Church offered him a position as assistant pastor. As the only assistant pastor at the time, Brian had a wide range of opportunities. Very soon, however, he would be introduced to a much more "attractive" opportunity . . . by the name of Tristie Whelpley.
Brian's wife, Tristie, graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. After graduation, Tristie joined Campus Crusade for Christ staff, and received her first assignment at Texas A&M. She and Brian met at Grace in Spring of 1995. One year later they were married (March 16, 1996). Brian and Tristie have been blessed with two children: Benjamin (Ben) born in 2001 and AnnaJoy born in 2004.
In 1998 Brian was asked to become the college pastor. Tristie's passion for personal discipleship and her skill as a public speaker helped to expand the scope and impact of the college ministry at Grace.
In July of 2004, after serving for six years as the college pastor, Brian was selected to be the senior pastor. Tristie continues to be very involved with the discipleship of college girls and the Lord is using Brian to launch a new vision to raise up the next generation leaders to reach our world for Christ.
"College students are one of the most strategic ministry investments in the world. Life's major decisions are usually made at the university – career, spouse, values and purpose in life. Texas A&M just happens to be one of the most receptive campuses in the world to the gospel of Jesus Christ. It seems that the Spirit is accelerating His work in students' lives at this place and at this time. By equipping godly adults and connecting them with energetic, teachable students, we have a special opportunity to make a strategic impact for the kingdom of God. There is no place in the world I would rather be."
