Matt Morton
Pastor, College Ministry
"...forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." - Phil 3:13b-14
Pursuing Jesus Christ through fulfilling the Great Commission is the heartbeat of ministry. This conviction drives Matt's desire to see college students become godly leaders dedicated to furthering Christ's purposes in the world.
Matt graduated from Texas A&M in 1998 with a Mechanical Engineering degree. Although his long-term plans were uncertain, Matt accepted an opportunity to serve for two years as a GBC college intern. During that time, he became convinced that his gifting and passion were in full-time vocational ministry. In particular, he felt that the Lord was directing him to lead college students, through evangelism and discipleship, to a greater depth of relationship with Jesus Christ.
In January 2000, while still interning at GBC, Matt married Shannon Habgood. Shannon serves the college ministry well through her gifts of encouragement and teaching. In addition, her dedication to Christ and love for college students are invaluable to Grace College Life. Matt considers himself privileged to have married such a wonderful and godly woman.
After his internship at GBC ended, Matt and Shannon moved to Dallas while Matt pursued his Masters of Theology (Th.M.) at Dallas Theological Seminary. Upon graduating in May 2004, Matt accepted his current position as Associate College Pastor. He is very grateful for the chance to disciple and lead the next generation of Christiam leaders.
Since moving back to College Station, the Lord has blessed Matt and Shannon with two daughters, Elizabeth Grace (2004) and Abigail Hope (2008). The entire Morton family is excited about how God is moving at Grace Bible Church, and feels privileged to be a part of His work.
