Kevin Barra
Pastor, Youth Ministry
"I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season' reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction...But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry." 2 Timothy 4:1-2, 5
Kevin grew up in Katy, Texas, and never thought he would go into ministry. He considers himself “the most unchurched, church kid” who rarely went to youth and attended church sporadically. Late in high school and mainly in college God began working on Kevin's heart to begin drawing him to Himself. Significant moments with Jesus occurred over summers in college; one at a Christian work camp and others in Colorado (where the Spirit of God truly dwells!). After College, he was asked to join the staff at First Evangelical Free church as an Intern. After a tough year of raising support and reaching the student athletes of the Texas Track Team, God stirred his heart toward youth ministry.
Kevin's fiancé at the time and now wife, Hillary, was attending Veterinary School at Texas A&M and by God’s providence brought them to Grace Bible Church. He came on staff with the youth ministry at Grace Bible Church in June of 2005 and worked here for 3 years. He left for one year as Hilary pursued a Veterinary Internship in Coral Springs, Florida and returned one year later as the Youth Pastor and has loved it!
Kevin has a passion for youth! It is a very strategic time in the life to influence teenagers toward Christ. Kevin says, "Grace Bible Church is wonderful in that we have a great base of dedicated college students who willingly invest time and energy into the lives of youth. Through building relationships and sharing the truth of Jesus, we hope to radically transform the lives of youth for the glory of Christ!" Recently, Hillary gave birth to their daughter, Peyton Noelle. Kevin and Hillary are now happy, tired parents!
