Jacob Smith, Candidate for Assistant Pastor, College Ministry (Anderson Campus)
“For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching.” 1 Corinthians 1.21
Proclaiming the good news of the resurrected Christ has been Jacob’s passion and purpose ever since God called him to vocational ministry at Impact Retreat during the summer before his freshman year at Texas A&M. After coming to faith as a child in a Christian home with two parents passionately pursuing God, Jacob grew up hearing about the incredible work of Jesus Christ from Godly pastors, teachers, and youth leaders. Heading into college, Jacob knew he wanted to serve within the Grace Bible Church youth ministry after it had been so instrumental in helping him take ownership of his own faith. While volunteering as a college student, Jacob was given his first opportunity to preach, and he immediately fell in love with the process of preparing and presenting God’s truth in a clear and compelling manner.
Jacob was later given the unique opportunity of joining Grace Youth staff part-time while still pursuing his degree from A&M, and the Lord proceeded to use those early years of middle school ministry to break Jacob down before building him up into someone better suited for a lifetime of ministry. After later serving as the Southwood youth coordinator for a few years, Jacob was asked in the summer of 2013 to join the college staff team as the lead preacher for college worship at Anderson.
Despite having lived in College Station his entire life, Jacob has learned to see and love both Texas A&M and Blinn College in a new way since entering into college ministry. Jacob absolutely loves college ministry and continues to feel overwhelmingly blessed to play a small part in what God is accomplishing on the campuses and in the communities of Bryan/College Station.
Jacob and Susan first met at Fish Camp (whoop!) in 2006 and got to serve together in youth ministry throughout their college years. They married in 2010 and welcomed their daughter, Charlotte, into the world in late 2014. Their son, Lawrence, was born in early 2017, and their dog is still learning to adjust. Susan graduated from Texas A&M with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology in 2010 and a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2012. Susan is currently enjoying this season of life as a stay at home wife and mother to their young family and loves to be involved with Grace College as much as possible.
Jacob graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in College Station, TX in 2006. He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Texas A&M in 2009 and earned his master’s in Christian Leadership through Dallas Theological Seminary in 2017.
Thomas Seith, Candidate for Assistant Pastor, Youth Ministry (Anderson Campus)
I grew up in the western suburbs of Chicago, IL and moved to Friendswood, TX the summer after my freshman year of high school. Both of my parents are Christians and have been married for over 30 years now. In fact, I first heard the gospel when I was about 7 years old, when my mom shared it with me. I have an older brother who lives in Chicago, IL and a sister who lives in Dillon, MT. Throughout my time in high school, I was only loosely familiar with the gospel and did not know Jesus on a personal level. I then began studying Mechanical Engineering at Texas A&M University in the fall of 2008. After a tough semester of college during the fall of my junior year, God used my roommates, Breakaway and the Passion conference in Atlanta to break through into my life. It was during that season that I saw the enormity of my sin and the hugeness of the grace of God. Christ completely transformed my heart. I began a journey with God where I learned who He was & what He says about living my life. God began to move my heart and stir my affections for people. He pulled me into a deeper relationship with Him than I had ever thought possible. He gave me a more genuine love for His commands and gave me a sincere love for Himself. Christ brought everything I had ever been taught about Him, refreshed it and pushed me to a new level of trust in Him. I was a new creation.
Shortly after my conversion I began to work with junior high and high school students in a variety of ways. I didn’t know this at the time, but God was preparing me for a life of ministry. Over the next few years, I served on the youth staff at various churches including First Baptist Church of Friendswood, TX, Grace Bible Church in College Station, TX and The Heights Church in Richardson, TX. I also worked for The Center for Student Missions in Chicago, IL and Houston, TX and volunteered with a Christian organization at Texas A&M called Impact. After graduating from Texas A&M in 2012, I began my Master of Theology (Th.M, Emphasis: Historical Theology) at Dallas Theological Seminary. While living in the Dallas area, I was able to marry my beautiful wife Emily. She has brought me so much joy and I am very thankful to have her partnership in ministry! This past August I returned to Grace Bible Church to be the Youth Ministry Director at our Anderson Campus and have loved it! It has been a joy to return to Grace and to be a part of the church that helped me grow so much throughout college! I will finish my Th.M this August. I am currently 27 years old and I love watching sports, exploring the city, drinking coffee, biking, history & seeing new places.
